Overview:

Bay Block is a fall detection app designed to help treestand users or those working from a height stay safe. The app connects to an electronic device nRF52832 (Adafruit Feather nRF52 Bluefruit LE) and indicates when the safety belt is unhooked. If a fall is detected, the app sends a text message to emergency contacts with the user’s location. Bay Block is the first ever device that uses Bluetooth with nRF52832 device output signals to read and activate text messages.

Need:

Joseph Meyers Jr. is the inventor of Bay Block and a resident of a small town in Western Oklahoma with 25 years of experience in the safety industry. Through thorough research and review, he found that existing fall protection solutions lacked adequate details on ensuring user safety. Meyers also noticed gaps in studies that investigated the injuries caused by hanging in harnesses and staying suspended for long lengths of time. All these factors motivated him to create a revolutionary product – Bay Block – that changed traditional protective harnesses forever.

Joseph Meyers Jr. and the Bay Block team wanted to take the revolutionary safety harness to the next level, so they set out to create a fall detection app linked to the safety belt. This app needed to communicate with the harness belt and let users know if a fall was detected. Adding innovative technology to Bay Block harness solutions can help keep treestand users safe and secure. The Bay Block team contacted our custom web application development company to design the first-ever fall detection app that connects with a safety harness.

Solution:

To create a successful app and boost Bay Block’s safety features, our iPhone app development services team began an in-depth study that would outline the business goals and pressing concerns. After determining the framework for the app – layout, plan, navigation design- our UX and design teams started a deep analysis by interviewing stakeholders and researching the products. The biggest challenge was to link the app with electronic devices via Bluetooth signal output reading. With this information, we quickly set out to solve their pain points while ensuring maximum safety and functionality for their transformative harnesses.

Here are some features added by our iPhone app development services:

SOS signal: If a user is hanging out in a treestand or at a height with a safety belt on, the Bay Block app indicates that the user fell, and the app will send an SOS message to five preselected contacts, letting them know that the user requires help. It will also send a timestamp and current coordinates of the location to emergency contacts.

A revolutionary technology: The team developed an INO file that integrated with the electronic device and programmed the Bluetooth device integration, allowing the app to connect to nRF52 and read the signals coming. The team soldered the wires to the nRF52 device and added a switch to test the input signals, turning it on and off.

User-friendly: The app is designed with an intuitive and straightforward interface. All it takes to get started is connecting the safety harness via Bluetooth and adding your emergency contacts list. Once set up, the app helps you augment the user’s safety.

Result:

Bay Block’s new app prioritizes safety for those working at heights such as construction, roofing, tree trimming, window cleaning, treestand, and more. By keeping companies ANSI and OSHA compliant, the app helps save time in rescue operations, potentially saving lives. The app’s release was met with a positive response and has since been bundled with Bay Block’s harness solutions, providing an innovative way to market its safety solutions.
